Events at the Seawatch
Maui Film Festival at Wailea
The Seawatch Restaurant annually plays its part as
one of the sponsors of the Maui Film Festival at Wailea,
as film buffs gather under the stars at one of the festival's
venues, the Celestial Cinema. The 2007 festival took
place from June 13-17. Festival directors Barry and
Stella Rivers produced an event in 2007 that brought
record-breaking crowds to the Celestial Cinema.
William Hurt was honored at this year's festival as
the recipient of the 2007 Navigator Award, while
actress Claire Danes received the Nova Award.
Maui Calls
This annual affair brings together a host of
Hawaii's top chefs and pairs their food
with the wines of several world-renowned
winemakers as a fundraiser for the
Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The 2007
event was held at the Cultural Center
on August 11.
Wendy's Champions Skins Game
Formerly known as the Senior Skins Game, this golf
tournament, which played annually on Wailea's Gold
Course, was hosted by The Seawatch Restaurant over
the last seven years. This popular competition
celebrated its 20th year in January of 2007, but will
be moving to the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course from
February 23-24 in 2008, where the team of Tom Watson
and Jack Nicklaus will be defending their title.
Taste of Lahaina
The Seawatch Restaurant has participated
in Maui's largest culinary festival several times.
This event showcases many of the island's top
restaurants each September, with 2 days of food
and wine tastings, cooking demonstrations and
live entertainment. Taste of Lahaina 2007 took
place September 14-15 at the Lahaina Recreation
Park II, behind the soccer field.
Taste of Wailea
This Wailea culinary fête, which features
well-known South Maui chefs, coincides with
the Maui Film Festival at Wailea. The Seawatch
has participated in this affair several times since
1995. The 2007 event took place at the
Wailea Gold & Emerald Golf Courses on
June 16, above The Seawatch Restaurant.
Terry Fox Dinner Gala
Chef Todd Carlos joins several of Maui's
finest chefs in this annual fundraising event
that takes place each fall at The Four
Seasons Resort in Wailea. All proceeds
benefit the American Cancer Society and The
Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. This event
was not scheduled for 2007.
Wine Dinners - Cakebread Cellars
Chef Todd Carlos has paired his signature Coastal Cuisine
with several top winemakers, such as Dave Ready, Jr. of
Murphy-Goode. On March 13, The Seawatch presented a
wine dinner that featured several outstanding wines from
Napa Valley's Cakebread Cellars. The menu included pairings
such as a 2005 Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon with a ballotine
of Moulard duck confit and seared foie gras, with an ohelo berry
glaze. Please check back for announcements of upcoming
wine dinners throughout 2008.
